50 Years of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb

Brazilian Greenpeace blends Art and Ecological Protest

text Ricardo Anderßos
As a landmark to the 50 years of the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima, the environmentalist organization Greenpeace sponsored an art exhibition with works by 50 Bazilian artists who produced paintings and lithographies on the subject. The event will be held in SESC Pompeia, in Sπo Paulo, August 5 - 15.
After the exhibition, the paintings will be donated to the city of Kobe, Japan, as a contribution to its reconstruction after this yearÆs earthquake. The lithographies will be sold in Brazil in order to help finance GreenpeaceÆs campaign against nuclear weapons. The French Government has recently announced the restart of nuclear tests in South Pacific, undesirably bringing the issue up once again. Strange coincidence: exactly ten years ago, the ship Rainbow Warrior, GreenpeaceÆs main instrument in its struggle against natureÆs aggressions was drowned in an incident attributed to the French Secret Service.
In this NEO in the Web edition, you may access high resolution files of all the 14 lithographies showed at the exhibition. Click on each one to have them copied to your computer. Later on, you may print them and create your own exhibition. Greenpeace believes that the dissemination of such art works through Internet will multiply their protest against the use of nuclear weapons. This same NEO in the Web article is also included in the WWW page of Greenpeace International, in their London server (click here to access GreenpeaceÆs home page)
Just below the lithographies, there is a post card form. Click on it to have it copied, then print it, sign it and send it to the French President Mr. Jacques Chirac, expressing your repudiation for the restart of the nuclear tests.
